That Guy's Wearing Red, Too!

Exploring the State of Nebraska and its unique football tradition

Shivering Showdown in New Jersey

As if the pleasantly surprising and unexpected events of last Saturday were not enough, my wife received a call last Monday from her Omaha Westside High School friend and former UNL college roommate who now lives in New Jersey, to inform her that she and her husband had just been give 4 tickets to the Rutgers game. Would we like to join them at the game, was the question. After spending several milliseconds deep in thoughtful deliberation we gladly accepted, and so it is now that we find ourselves ready to go watch the Huskers visit High Point Solutions Stadium for the first time to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Both teams are playing for the eventual chance to go to a bowl game, but both teams must win today to give themselves a chance at a .500 season. While Rutgers has been to a bowl game in 9 of the last 10 years, Nebraska has played in a total of 51 bowls which puts them third on the all-time list behind Texas (53) and Alabama (62). Obviously only one team can win today’s game which should be a hard-fought affair.

The good news for my wife and I as we get ready to go to the game is that the day is sunny and has already reached its maximum predicted temperature.

The bad news is that the maximum predicted temperature is 48 degrees. The four of us may need to supplement our pre-game preparation with some internal thermal fortification just before the kickoff so that we can cheer for the Huskers in suitably spirited style.

Go Big Red!
